"Ultimate Choral Classics" with the RTECO in March

Sharon Carty Galway Baroque Singers make a swift return to the National Concert Hall on March 22nd, joining the RTÉ Concert Orchestra for an evening of popular choral classics from Vivaldi’s Gloria to Karl Jenkins and much more.

With renowned musician and conductor Richard Balcombe on the podium, you simply cannot miss the RTÉ Concert Orchestra when they present All Time Great Choral Classics.

This concert will also feature the very best of choral and vocal music made famous on the big screen.

Guest soloist for the evening will be Sharon Carty (pictured left). Sharon was one of the soloists for last year's The Armed Man. Sharon also performed with us in 2010 in our Puccini/Duruflé concert.

Galway Baroque Singers October Performances

The Galway Baroque Singers will be performing two concerts, entitled  "A Gilbert & Sullivan Extravaganza", with the RTE Concert Orchestra in October:

On Saturday, October 22nd at 8:00pm in Leisureland Galway;

On Sunday, October 23rd at 8:00pm in the National Concert Hall, Dublin.

The concerts will feature soloists Sarah Fox, soprano; Richard Suart, baritone and Richard Angas, bass.

The programme includes excerpts from several Gilbert & Sullivan works including Ruddigore, HMS Pinafore, The Gondoliers, The Sorcerer and The Pirates of Penzance. Also included is a full performance of Trial by Jury, the one-act comic opera with a typically ludicrous satirical plot concerning "a breach of promise of marriage" lawsuit!

This concert is an exciting new experience for Galway Baroque Singers as the choir will be performing an Operetta/Musical repertoire for the first time. Another first for the choir will be the opportunity to work with the well-known English conductor John Wilson who has a reputation for being an exciting and dynamic conductor - the singers eagerly look forward to working with him.

John Wilson headshotJohn Wilson is the Principal Guest Conductor of the RTE Concert Orchestra and has worked extensively with the orchestra over the last 2 years, in concerts which have been critically acclaimed. A prolific arranger, he has orchestrated and conducted several of Paul McCartney's compositions with the London Symphony Orchestra and his arrangements and orchestrations have been played by the Chicago Symphony, Boston Pops and Cleveland orchestras. John works on a regular basis with the Halle, City of Birmingham, BBC Scottish and BBC Concert orchestras. His concert at the BBC Proms in 2009 in a programme of songs from the MGM Musicals was one of the highlights of the Prom season.

Tickets for the Galway performance are available from Charlie Byrne's Bookshop, Middle Street.

Tickets for the Dublin performance are available from the National Concert Hall, www.nch.ie.
